SIG Meeting September

Data Warehousing - The Microsoft Philosophy

The speaker at our opening presentation this season will be Michael McKee, Marketing Manager for Database Servers at Microsoft Canada. He is responsible for the marketing and technical evangelism of Microsoft SQL Server across Canada. Michael holds a bachelor degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.

Microsoft is a recent entrant in the data warehousing market. It will be launching its OLAP product, code-named 'Plato', this fall. Microsoft's entry into any market inevitably changes the dynamics of that market, and as such, its intentions are worth noting. This presentation overviews Microsoft's plans for data warehousing at large, and focuses on its OLAP offering.

The agenda will be as follows:

1. Microsoft Data Warehousing Framework
1.1. SQL Server 7.0 & Data Warehousing
1.2 Data Transformation Services

2. OLAP Services
2.3.1 Architecture
2.3.2 Scalability
2.3.3 Ease of administration
