Evolving from DW to BI: HBC’s Tale from the Trenches
This presentation outlines The Hudson’s Bay Company’s (HBC) transition from Data Warehousing to a successful Business Intelligence implementation. The focus is on unanticipated Change Management challenges related to human readiness and acceptance as manifested in training, communication and organization roles and responsibilities. Although we continue on our journey of transition, hindsight reveals some lessons learned worth sharing.
Zenobia Deboo joined the Hudson’s Bay Company 18 years ago working in various capacities including Sales, Buying and Planning. Six years ago during the inception of the first Data Warehouse, she became a Business Systems Analyst in which my key role included Project Lead, Decision Making and Support on the Data Warehouse team. Currently, she is a Senior Business Systems Analyst on the Business Intelligence (BI) team. Her primary focus in this role has been Project Controller for transitioning HBC towards a successful Business Intelligence, Change Management associated with this transition and Decommissioning our Legacy Systems. At present she is leading the ongoing Support efforts required to keep the new system afloat.
