Master Data Management

Today’s business environment requires organizations to find a way to differentiate themselves from their competition and thrive amid increased pressure to succeed. While a company’s data is obviously extremely important to drive and gauge success, the data is often poorly organized and underutilized due to quality and consistency issues. This can be particularly true with master data.

Master Data Management (MDM) is about bringing master data together to facilitate the employment of master data management services – such as data governance and stewardship; data quality, metadata, hierarchy, and overall data lifecycle management – and ultimately, to serve as the single source of truth for the business. At the foundation of MDM are executive sponsorship and the true collaboration between business and IT to effectively fine-tune the triad of people, process, and technology.


Dalton Cervo is co-author of the book Master Data Management in Practice – Achieving True Customer MDM and a contributing author to the book The Next Wave of Technologies – Opportunities in Chaos. Dalton has over 20 years experience in software development, project management, and data management areas, including architecture design, implementation, and data quality management of MDM programs.

Dalton is a senior solutions consultant at DataFlux, helping organizations in the areas of data quality, data integration, data governance, and MDM. Prior to DataFlux, Dalton served as the data quality lead throughout the planning and implementation of Sun Microsystems’ enterprise customer data hub.
